Carbs are Far Superior

The macro molecule I would want to be is a carbohydrate. It consists of hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon. They are used for quick energy and if not used are converted into storage form known as glycogen. They make mono saccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. They are in pastas, starches, and sugars.

Biology Article Summmary

48437_rel.jpgI read an article on the Biologynews website. It was talking about how complex brains in insects develop earlier then biologists originally thought. A 3 inch fossil of a Fuxianhuia protensa was found in the Yunnan province of China, dating from the Cambrian period 520 million years ago. It showed an advanced brain anatomy with a primitive body. The article stated that the fossil was a "missing link" that sheds some light on the evolution of arthropods. It later went on of how this discovery will make a long standing debate of how and when complex brains evolved. The article stated that, "the fossil supports the idea that once a basic brain design had evolved, it changed little over time." (Biologynews).

Homecoming Week

At SHS, homecoming is a week long event that starts out with dress up days. The class that has the most participants wins that dress up day. This goes on till the end of the school week on a Friday, which is homecoming day and the games begin. Every class, wearing a different color shirts, play games to earn points for there class. Then finally a winning class is declared. My experiences of SHS homecoming overall are great! It is a week for a class to come together and work together. This year I was slightly disappointed. The feel of homecoming day was not as energetic as I remembered maybe it is because I'm a senior. I know that SHS does homecoming the best in the entire nation and will continue to do so.

Poaching

The Native Americans had it right, being one with the Earth and it's many organisms was the way to go. Hunting and killing an animal was more of a ritual then it was just killing to survive. Some tribes would take the heart out of there kill to let the soul free. They would make use of the whole animal right down to the very bones. In present day, the ways of the Native Americans have long disappeared. Poaching animals has become an issue in most countries.Poaching is when people kill an animal illegally for normally one part of there body. Poachers sell the animal part such as a horn, antler, or tusk on the black market. This affects biodiversity as species are becoming extinct due to the result of poaching. The things we can do to stop poaching is to raise awareness of this awful iniquity, and protect the endangered species before its to late.

In the Future with AP Biology

The topics I am most eager for is evolution. Evolution seems like it would be a lot of fun learning about, like how the smallest of organisms adapted and evolved to survive the ever changing planet we call Earth. The topic that I am least looking forward too would have to be Biochemistry. Anything with chemistry attached to the end of it is bad news for me! I'll give it a shot and try my best.

The AP pre-test seemed impossible, so I hope I learn what I need too before spring comes!

About me

My name is Rock Klenk. I like to do active things such as: running, biking, camping, working, sports, and hanging out with friends. My favorite animal is the koala bear. I would really like to go to either MSU for agribusiness, or Ferris for storage refrigeration. I'm taking this class to learn more about biology and learn more about the enviorment. I feel this class will help me in my career choice. I hope to learn a lot and to give me an edge in biology courses in college.
