I read an article on the
Biologynews website. It was talking about how complex brains in insects develop earlier then biologists originally thought. A 3 inch fossil of a
Fuxianhuia protensa was found in the Yunnan province of China, dating from the Cambrian period 520 million years ago. It showed an advanced brain anatomy with a primitive body. The article stated that the fossil was a "missing link" that sheds some light on the evolution of arthropods. It later went on of how this discovery will make a long standing debate of how and when complex brains evolved. The article stated that, "the fossil supports the idea that once a basic brain design had evolved, it changed little over time." (Biologynews).
